Rapper Huh Seong-hyun has been selected as this year’s first 'RADAR' artist by Spotify, the world's largest music streaming platform.
On the 11th, Spotify announced that rapper Huh Seong-hyun (Huh), affiliated with the hip-hop label Amoeba Culture, was chosen as the first ‘RADAR KOREA’ artist of the year.
'RADAR' is Spotify’s proprietary artist support program that discovers promising global rising artists and provides long-term human and financial resources, editorial support, as well as online and offline marketing promotions.
Artists selected for RADAR have the opportunity to expand their activities and gain more listeners through Spotify’s diversified support.
Huh Seong-hyun debuted in 2019 and appeared on the Mnet hip-hop survival show ‘Show Me The Money 9.’ In 2021, he signed an exclusive contract with the label Amoeba Culture. He was the runner-up on ‘Show Me The Money 11,’ which ended last December, and released the double single “Midnightlaw” in March.
As part of the RADAR program, Spotify is conducting online promotions including platform features and outdoor advertisements aligned with Huh Seong-hyun’s activities. Additionally, videos capturing Huh Seong-hyun’s sensibility have been released through the RADAR KOREA playlist’s Clips and the official YouTube channel. Spotify also plans to support Huh Seong-hyun in producing ‘Spotify Singles,’ which involves re-recording existing songs in new ways or covering songs by other artists.
Huh Seong-hyun said, “I am happy to get closer to listeners worldwide through Spotify’s RADAR program and to introduce my unique colors and music as an artist. I am grateful to work with Spotify through this great opportunity, and I plan to continue showcasing diverse music I want to make while showing my honest self.”
A Spotify representative stated, “We will support various Korean artists in diverse ways to connect them with Spotify listeners worldwide.”
Through RADAR KOREA, Spotify has been focusing on and supporting rising Korean artists. Since launching the RADAR KOREA playlist in August 2020, it has introduced various talented domestic artists such as AleXa, ASH ISLAND, NMIXX, and SOLE to Spotify listeners around the world.
