Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that the ‘Gohung-gun Agricultural and Marine Products Export Pioneering Team,’ led by County Governor Gong Young-min, stayed in Los Angeles and nearby Paramount and Fullerton in California, USA, from April 6 to 8 (local time), conducting a ‘Gohung Yuzu Beverage Tasting Event’ at Northgate, a local American market, and a ‘Gohung Agricultural and Marine Products Promotion and Sales Event’ at Hannam Chain, receiving favorable reviews locally.
In particular, at Northgate Market, a tasting event for Gohung Yuzu Aloe beverage, developed for sale in the U.S., was held targeting local customers, and the event became a major issue locally, with Korean-American media in LA covering the event and interviewing County Governor Gong Young-min.
An official who attended the marketing event said, “Gohung Yuzu beverage seems likely to be greatly loved in the U.S. local market, and we look forward to its future,” highly evaluating the results of the promotional event.
Furthermore, when asked about the tasting results of Gohung Yuzu beverage by American customers visiting the market, they responded in an interview, “I felt the unique taste of Gohung Yuzu beverage was very mysterious and fresh, and I am satisfied with the taste,” adding, “I will purchase it when I visit the market in the future.”
This event is the result of collaboration between Gohung-gun and the local U.S. distribution company Chimaeks Produce Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Kyung-nam), developing food and beverages for the U.S. local market using recipes tailored to local tastes and packaging designs featuring Gohung Yuzu.
County Governor Gong Young-min said, “It takes a very complicated process and a lot of time to develop a single product. Especially when the consumers are foreigners, many difficulties arise, but with all procedures completed, including U.S. FDA approval, and good results from local tasting tests, this will be a great boost for pioneering the U.S. market.”
Kim Min-ho, head of the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) Los Angeles branch, also met in advance with County Governor Gong Young-min and the ‘Gohung-gun Agricultural and Marine Products Export Pioneering Team,’ stating, “We will actively support Korean agricultural and marine products to be competitive overseas.”
The Gohung-gun Agricultural and Marine Products Export Pioneering Team also visited Hannam Chain in the Fullerton area to check the Gohung agricultural and marine processed products stocked in the market and discussed plans to expand the product lineup.
Additionally, they held promotional events for Gohung products and Jeollanam-do products targeting customers visiting the market. Currently, Hannam Chain Mart stocks and sells various products from Gohung, including yuzu, gim (seaweed), miyeok (wakame), dashima (kelp), and oat noodles.
Choi Kwang-woo, head of the Jeollanam-do International Cooperation Office LA branch, who supported the event on-site, said, “It is very rare for a basic local government to independently conduct a promotion to pioneer export markets for regional agricultural and marine products,” adding, “Local promotional events targeting local residents are even more difficult, but I felt County Governor Gong Young-min’s strong will to pioneer overseas markets.”
A Gohung-gun official said, “Holding this event locally in the U.S. served as an opportunity to confirm the competitiveness of Gohung agricultural and food products,” and added, “We will strategically proceed with product development reflecting various opinions through communication with local companies and pioneer export markets overseas such as the U.S. and Europe.”
