The South Korean and U.S. governments stated that "a significant portion was forged" regarding documents containing allegations of U.S. intelligence agencies wiretapping South Korea's diplomatic and security lines. In response, Kim Yong-min, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized this as a "tactic to cleverly distort the facts."
On the 11th, Kim shared a screenshot of the related article on his social media (SNS) and stated, "Even if the U.S. insists it is not true, the victim country should not easily agree."
Kim Tae-hyo, the First Deputy Director of the National Security Office, met with reporters at Incheon International Airport just before departing for the U.S. to finalize arrangements for the state visit. He said, "Regarding the documents, both South Korea and the U.S. agree that a significant portion of the information disclosed is forged. This morning, the defense ministers of both countries spoke on the phone, and their views are aligned."
However, Representative Kim said, "Even if it means canceling the summit, we must respond firmly," and added, "At the very least, I want to see a president who prioritizes national interests amid such controversies."
