According to the Central Wildfire Prevention Headquarters of the Korea Forest Service on the 11th, the wildfire occurred at around 8:30 a.m. in the Nangok-dong area of Gangneung City, Gangwon Province.

At 9:30 a.m., the Korea Forest Service issued Wildfire Level 1 for the Nangok-dong area and urgently deployed six wildfire suppression helicopters, 42 firefighting equipment units, and 276 wildfire suppression personnel to the site to conduct firefighting activities.

Currently, it has been confirmed that one house was damaged by the wildfire. In particular, strong winds (southwest wind, average wind speed 15 m/s, gusts up to 30 m/s) are blowing at the Nangok-dong wildfire site, raising concerns about the spread of the fire.

The Korea Forest Service is identifying the fire lines and wildfire impact zones while urgently evacuating residents in the Nangok-dong area to the nearby Gyeongpo-dong Community Center.

Meanwhile, with the issuance of Wildfire Level 1, the Korea Forest Service can mobilize 100% of helicopters and firefighting personnel from the relevant local government agencies, as well as 50% of wildfire suppression helicopters and drones from adjacent agencies to the wildfire suppression site.

The criteria for applying Wildfire Level 1 include an expected forest damage area of 10 to 30 hectares or more, average wind speeds of 2 to 4 m/s or higher at the site, and an expected firefighting duration of 3 to 8 hours or more.
