Backpacker (CEO Kim Dong-hwan) announced on the 11th that the handmade market platform 'Idus' is making a full-scale entry into the global market. The global version of Idus will be operated independently, separate from the domestic version, and will be available as a mobile app in about 50 countries worldwide. Existing domestic Idus creators can join the global app without separate registration.
In particular, Idus handles the entire process for creators entering the global market, from consolidated shipping at its domestic logistics warehouse to export-import customs clearance and overseas delivery. Translation support is also provided at reasonable costs.
So far, Idus has seen purchases from overseas customers in the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, and more. Earlier this year, Backpacker secured a total investment of 20 billion KRW from overseas investors to prepare for Idus's overseas business.
Launched in 2014, Idus currently has over 36,000 creators and has recorded 16.5 million cumulative app downloads and 880 billion KRW in cumulative transaction volume. It is the second largest handmade market globally after Etsy.
Kim Dong-hwan, CEO of Backpacker, said, "The global e-commerce market is worth over 4,000 trillion KRW, which is more than 32 times the size of the domestic market, and the handmade sector is rapidly growing alongside it. We have prepared for a long time to showcase K-craft globally, and we will focus on actively supporting domestic creators' overseas expansion and increasing their profits."
