The Gyeongsangnam-do Parents' Association for the Disabled held a rally in front of the Gyeongnam Provincial Government Office on the 10th, urging the establishment of a rights-based support system for people with developmental disabilities.
The association stated, "The tragedies of people with developmental disabilities and their families are repeating and ongoing," and claimed, "They are suffering amid widespread prejudice, discrimination, and isolation in society."
"Human life changes according to the life cycle, and the same applies to people with developmental disabilities," they said. "Attitudes toward disabilities and the content of support should vary by age, but this area is shifted to families as a private matter, resulting in insufficient related systems."

They delivered a policy proposal to Gyeongnam Province that includes ▲ establishing legal grounds for systematic early diagnosis and intervention for children with disabilities and family support ▲ strengthening early diagnosis and introducing and enhancing early intervention ▲ installing and operating multi-support day activity service centers for people with severe developmental disabilities ▲ building a public-private cooperative employment support system ▲ introducing rights-centered customized public jobs for people with severe disabilities ▲ and establishing specialized hospitals, specialized dental clinics, and lifelong education centers.
The association emphasized, "It is the responsibility of public institutions managing local communities to seek and institutionalize necessary support rather than continuing lives of exclusion, discrimination, and institutionalization due to disability."
They plan to continue holding rallies nationwide, including in Busan and Gwangju.
