The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit announced on the 10th that while tracking Mr. A, who sold methamphetamine to Mr. Gil, a man in his 20s who manufactured and supplied the drug beverage, they discovered that Mr. A had been apprehended by the Suwon Jungbu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province for another drug-related case. Accordingly, the Narcotics Investigation Unit confirmed that they conducted an investigation of Mr. A on the 9th. He is known to have no connection with the Chinese voice phishing organization.
Mr. Gil is suspected of manufacturing the drug beverage in Wonju, Gangwon Province, and sending it to four part-time workers in Seoul using express buses and quick delivery services.
Earlier, four part-time workers in their 20s to 40s, paired in twos, handed out the ‘concentration enhancement beverage’ to students near Gangnam-gu Office Station and Daechi Station in Seoul on the 3rd. It is reported that a total of eight people, including one parent, consumed the drug beverage.
Subsequently, the parents of the victims received threatening phone calls from a group speaking with a Joseonjok accent, stating that they would report to the police or inform the school that their children had taken drugs.
All four individuals who distributed the drug beverage were either arrested or surrendered to the police. They testified that they had applied after seeing a part-time job advertisement online and did not know the beverage contained narcotic substances.
