Promotion of Yudalsan Spring Festival Venue to Jeonnam Residents and Tourists

National Mokpo University (President Song Ha-cheol) conducted promotional activities to raise awareness about the necessity of establishing a medical school in Jeonnam Province for Jeonnam residents and tourists visiting the festival site during the 2023 Yudalsan Spring Festival, held in collaboration with Mokpo City from the 7th to the 8th.

According to Mokpo University on the 10th, university and Mokpo City officials handed out promotional leaflets about attracting a national medical school in Jeonnam to citizens participating in the festival, and over 1,600 citizens signed petitions supporting the establishment of the medical school.

Jeonnam is the only metropolitan city/province in the country without a medical school, lacking a system for training and supplying medical personnel. Especially due to the sharp decline in public health doctors, the promotional leaflets emphasized the urgent need to establish a national medical school in Jeonnam to address medical service gaps in vulnerable areas such as islands and rural fishing and farming communities.

Cha Joo-hwan, Director of Planning at Mokpo University, stated, “Citizens participating in the Yudalsan Spring Festival in Mokpo City actively supported the establishment of a national medical school in Jeollanam-do, a medically underserved region.” He added, “With the highest levels nationwide of elderly population aged 65 and over, the proportion of patients with seven major chronic diseases, and emergency patient rates, as well as 58% of the nation’s inhabited islands concentrated here, establishing a national medical school in Jeonnam is absolutely necessary.”

Meanwhile, Mokpo University is actively engaged in various activities to promote the justification for establishing a national medical school in Jeonnam, including participating in various forums, hosting joint forums for establishing medical schools at national universities by region, organizing signature campaigns, and holding rallies at the National Assembly.
