Cheon Haram "Yoon Jaeok's Choice... The Ruling Party Is Still Satisfied"

"Once I get my nomination, I'll think... No sense of crisis"
"More prosecutors will jump in, just a dozen or so nominations"

Cheon Haram, the People Power Party's Jeonnam Suncheon-gap district committee chairman, commented on the election of floor leader Yoon Jae-ok, saying, "I think the choice was based on who is closer to Yoon's influence and who would be more helpful for my nomination," adding, "I feel that we are still complacent and not sensing the crisis."

In an interview with KBS Radio's 'Choi Kyung-young's Strong Current Affairs' on the 10th, Chairman Cheon said, "It seems that relying on Yoon's influence is more important than winning the general election. I feel this," and added, "Regardless of Yoon Jae-ok's personal abilities or likability, I think it was a poor choice."

He pointed out, "Currently, the leadership is heavily composed of members from the Yeongnam region, but if we think about the general election, choosing a floor leader from the Seoul metropolitan area to create a turning point would be a better choice," and said, "The party is truly in a major crisis, but it seems only those sitting in the National Assembly are unaware of it, or perhaps they know but are driven by their desire for nominations. It's a really difficult situation."

He continued, "Everyone seems to think that competing for loyalty and securing their own nomination is enough," adding, "As a result, the surviving members of the People Power Party mostly represent safe districts. It seems the focus is on individual survival rather than the overall direction of the party."

Regarding rumors of a large-scale nomination of prosecutors for next year's general election, he predicted, "That will depend on the president's approval rating and various other factors."

Chairman Cheon said, "There are certainly not a few former prosecutors who want to run in the general election," and predicted, "More will jump in as the election approaches. I expect a considerable number to enter, probably at least a dozen or more."
