The Largest Ever International Firefighting Expo Just 5 Months Away... EXCO "Doing Our Best to Prepare"

The largest and only fire safety specialized expo in Korea, the ‘2023 International Fire & Safety Expo (Fire&Safety expo Korea 2023),’ will be held for three days from August 30 to September 1 at Daegu EXCO.

Under the theme of ‘New Growth Fire Industry, New Driving Force Future Industry,’ this event will be held on the largest scale ever, covering 20,000㎡, and preparations are underway aiming for 350 companies and 1,500 booths.

Marking its 19th year, the International Fire & Safety Expo was first held in 2004 as a fire industry specialized exhibition to transform the city into a safer place following the Daegu subway fire disaster in 2003. This year’s expo will feature newly established special zones including the Fire UAM (Unmanned Aerial System) Pavilion, National Disaster Response Cooperation Pavilion, and Marine Firefighting Pavilion.

Last year, robot and drone pavilions were created to introduce the future of the fire industry in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The trend is expanding the distribution of advanced equipment such as robots and drones that can respond to fire scenes without humans entering directly.

This year, a new ‘Fire UAM Special Pavilion’ linked to the UAM demonstration project promoted by Daegu City will be established to showcase digital transformation in the fire sector and envision the future of the fire industry.

Additionally, the ‘National Disaster Response Cooperation Pavilion’ is a special zone where related agencies’ joint response systems to minimize damage to lives and property from national disasters such as large-scale disasters, climate change, and forest fires can be viewed at a glance. Relevant government agencies will be invited to participate.

At the ‘Marine Firefighting Pavilion,’ firefighting vessels replacement projects by fire headquarters will be linked to exhibit rescue and emergency equipment related to marine accidents, firefighting vessel equipment, and parts.

This year’s International Fire & Safety Expo focuses on globalizing the exhibition through aggressive overseas marketing. In particular, with recent easing of entry and exit restrictions, participation by Chinese companies has expanded, and companies from Germany, Dubai, and Malaysia will also participate directly.

Domestically, leading companies in the self-contained breathing apparatus field such as ‘Hancom Lifecare,’ ‘Honeywell Analytics,’ and ‘KD Defense’ have confirmed their participation.

Also, Korea’s only aerospace company ‘KAI Korea Aerospace Industries’ will participate on an expanded scale, and ‘Jinwoo SMC,’ which will showcase glove-type robots, as well as ‘Tayson’ and ‘IntoSky,’ which will exhibit firefighting drones, will also participate.

The export consultation meeting inviting overseas buyers will also be expanded. This consultation meeting will be held on the largest scale ever, inviting 150 overseas buyer companies to expand both quantitatively and qualitatively. Furthermore, defense officials from 10 countries in the New Southern and New Northern regions will be invited to introduce excellent domestic firefighting technologies.

This is because interest in the domestic defense industry, heightened by the Russia-Ukraine war, has expanded to the firefighting industry. In fact, the defense and firefighting sectors are closely connected in terms of technology application, and overseas, the Ministry of Defense and firefighting sectors are often combined and operated together.

More than 40 specialized seminars and workshops on firefighting technology will be held simultaneously. In particular, a 119 emergency medical service competition will be held to prevent multi-crowd accidents caused by large gatherings and to enhance accident response capabilities.

In the competition, the professional knowledge and skills of 119 paramedics in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, securing intravenous lines, and drug administration will be evaluated, creating synergy to strengthen the professionalism of the domestic firefighting industry.

Lee Sang-gil, CEO of EXCO, said, “The International Fire & Safety Expo started locally and is now recognized as one of the world’s top five specialized fire industry exhibitions. We are doing our best to prepare so that the expo can raise the status of the domestic fire industry,” adding, “As it will be held on the largest scale ever, we will prepare to achieve two goals: realizing a safe Korea and revitalizing the local economy.”
