The cultivation area is about 0.6 hectares, and it is expected that 18 tons of eco-friendly pesticide-free bananas will be harvested this year.

Jindo bananas contain no fat, sodium, or cholesterol, and are rich in water-soluble dietary fiber, pectin, and potassium, which help prevent constipation and hypertension.

In particular, compared to imported bananas that enter Korea in an under-ripened state, Jindo bananas are fresher and have excellent taste and aroma, making them popular among consumers.

Additionally, by cultivating bananas using compost and microbial spraying, the flesh is soft and the sugar content is high at 22 Brix.

Jindo bananas can be purchased for 10,000 KRW per 1 kg when visiting farms, and are also available at Nonghyup Hanaro Mart stores.

Jindo-gun is emerging as an ideal place for cultivating subtropical crops due to its warmer climate compared to other regions, abundant sunlight, mild winters, and low heating costs.

County Governor Kim Hee-su said, “As global warming is expected to accelerate in the future, we will strive to strengthen farm competitiveness by researching and disseminating cultivation techniques for various subtropical crops that help farm income, including eco-friendly pesticide-free bananas, in response to climate and environmental changes.”

Meanwhile, subtropical crops in Jindo-gun are cultivated by a total of 105 farms over 56 hectares, including buddleja, citrus, redhyang, apple mango, and bananas.
