LG Uplus announced on the 10th that it has signed a business agreement with Nubix, a value chain platform operator, and Glassdom Korea, a carbon emission management solution company. The aim is to provide solutions that can effectively respond to various global environmental regulations such as carbon emission reduction, thereby supporting the export of manufacturing companies' products.
Countries that have taken early steps to reduce greenhouse gases, such as the European Union (EU), the United States, and Japan, are drawing up more sophisticated carbon emission regulation roadmaps. In the case of the EU, starting from October this year, it will pilot the 'Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM),' which imposes additional costs based on carbon emissions on six imported items including steel, cement, and electricity. Additionally, companies exporting automotive batteries to the EU will be required to disclose carbon footprint information as early as 2024, and from 2026, the so-called 'Battery Passport' system, which digitizes lifecycle information from production to use, disposal, reuse, and recycling of batteries, will also be implemented.

Nubix is developing and commercializing VCP-X, and Glassdom is developing and commercializing the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) solution. LG Uplus is responsible for proposing to clients and building and operating the dedicated corporate network. LCA is a technique that evaluates the eco-friendliness throughout all cycles of a product’s production, distribution, use, and disposal.
Nubix’s VCP-X is a platform developed using global standard technology that enables secure data integration and compatibility between finished product export companies and their first- and second-tier suppliers to respond to environmental regulations. The LCA solution being developed by Glassdom collects real-time data generated at each factory using LG Uplus’s dedicated corporate network and calculates carbon emissions. When the VCP-X platform and LCA solution are combined, they can produce only environmental regulation-related data while preventing the leakage of sensitive data from partner companies, and provide accurate data to export companies.
Furthermore, the three companies plan to promote the institutionalization of LCA solution certification together with international certification bodies, supporting companies that adopt the solution to comply with environmental regulations without requiring additional separate certification.
Meanwhile, the business agreement ceremony held at LG Uplus’s Yongsan headquarters was attended by key executives including LG Uplus’s Janghyuk Lim, Head of Corporate New Business Group, Nubix’s CEO Byungki Jeon, and Glassdom’s Corporate Head Jinki Ham.
