The Radiation Exploration Science Classroom is an experiential program where students use radiation detectors to directly measure how much radiation is emitted around them in everyday places such as school classrooms, playgrounds, hallways, and gymnasiums, and then create radiation maps.
On this day, first-year students of Yangnam Middle School moved around the classroom and school surroundings to learn about radiation in daily life and had time to measure it themselves.
In addition to drawing radiation maps using radiation measuring devices, they also had a meaningful time learning in detail about industries utilizing radiation and presenting their findings.
A student who participated in the Radiation Exploration Science Classroom said, “The vague worries I had while living near nuclear power plants and radioactive waste disposal sites have disappeared,” and added, “I think I will be able to explain radiation well to my parents, siblings, and relatives.”
A representative of Wolseong Nuclear Power Headquarters stated, “We will spare no support and effort to help the youth, the future generation, grow into next-generation leaders who can explore careers in the nuclear and radiation fields based on an understanding of radiation and make proper value judgments.”
