In March of this year, the global sales volume of five domestic automakers exceeded 700,000 units.
On the 3rd, the five automakers (Hyundai, Kia, Korea GM, Renault, and KG Mobility) announced that they sold 730,241 units in domestic and overseas markets in March this year. This figure represents a 19.8% increase compared to March last year (609,577 units).
In particular, Hyundai recorded a remarkable growth of over 40% in the domestic market compared to the same month last year, and KG Mobility also showed signs of recovery in the domestic market due to the rising popularity of the new model Torres. In overseas markets, the strong exports of Hyundai and Kia, along with the growth of Korea GM led by the compact SUV Trailblazer, stood out.
In the domestic market, Hyundai sold 74,529 units in March, an increase of 40.9% compared to the same month last year. The Grandeur (10,916 units) and Porter (10,282 units) each sold over 10,000 units, reaffirming their status as best-selling models.
Kia sold 53,046 units in the domestic market during March, a 17.8% increase compared to the same month last year. The best-selling vehicle was the mid-size sports utility vehicle (SUV) Sorento, with 6,809 units sold.
KG Mobility, formerly known as Ssangyong Motor, recorded its highest monthly sales in two years and four months thanks to the power of the new Torres. In the domestic market, KG Mobility sold 8,904 units in March, a 74.5% increase compared to the same month last year. The new SUV Torres sold 6,595 units, setting a record for the highest monthly sales for a single model within the brand.
In overseas markets, improvements continued due to eased parts supply and the effect of new models. Hyundai sold 307,356 units overseas in March, a 17.4% increase compared to the same month last year. Kia also sold 224,911 units, up 9.2%.
Korea GM’s overseas sales surged by a remarkable 84.2% year-on-year in March, thanks to strong exports of the compact SUV Trailblazer (including the Buick Encore GX). They exported 39,082 units in March alone. The Trailblazer ranked first in SUV exports in the domestic automotive industry in January and February.
Renault Korea’s exports in March increased by 118.4% year-on-year, shipping 12,985 units. The XM3 (export name Renault Arkana) exported 10,939 units, including 6,160 hybrids, and the QM6 (export name Renault Koleos) exported 2,037 units. These figures represent increases of 106% and 241% respectively compared to the same month last year.
