This event is the second held following the one in 2022. About 100 people, including residents of Uiryeong who support the construction of the National Korean Language Dictionary Museum, walked the 7km path from Deumsil in Uiryeong to Songdogyo in Jijeong-myeon, following the route Dr. Lee Geuk-ro once walked.
Goru Lee Geuk-ro, a native of Uiryeong, was a great figure who served as the secretary-general of the ‘Joseon Language Society’ during the Japanese colonial period and risked his life to protect the Korean language and script. It is said that when he was 17 years old, driven by his passion for learning, he walked from his family home in Uiryeong to the old Changsinhakgyo in Masan.
On that day, over 100 participants walked along the path, reflecting on Dr. Goru Lee Geuk-ro’s noble love for the Korean language and script and expressing their wishes for the establishment of the National Korean Language Dictionary Museum in Uiryeong.

Ha Jong-deok, the deputy governor who participated in the event, said, “Uiryeong is a region full of patriotism and loyalty that steps forward before any other area when the country is in crisis. Dr. Goru Lee Geuk-ro also devoted himself to protecting our language and script. I hope that the wishes contained in every step taken today will lead to the construction of the National Korean Language Dictionary Museum.”
The county held an academic presentation at the National Assembly and Gyeongnam Provincial Office to promote the construction of the National Korean Language Dictionary Museum in Uiryeong, and is currently in continuous consultation with the relevant department of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
