Gokseong Okgwa and Our Neighborhood Welfare Task Force, Environmental Improvement Volunteer Work

On the 3rd, the Our Neighborhood Welfare Task Force in Ok-gwa-myeon, Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced that they carried out residential environment improvement activities for households with disabled members in the area.

The Our Neighborhood Welfare Task Force in Ok-gwa-myeon is a public-private cooperative volunteer organization established to alleviate the living inconveniences of vulnerable groups.

They improve living environments by repairing wallpaper, flooring, boilers, etc., and play a role in identifying welfare blind spots for vulnerable groups.

This time, welfare activities were conducted for an elderly couple diagnosed with lower limb disabilities. Two years ago, they received a long-term care grade and mostly lived in a wheelchair, but the high threshold at the entrance made wheelchair access difficult, severely restricting their outings.

The Welfare Task Force improved the residential environment by replacing old windows and doors, lowering the severely uneven entrance path, and installing a ramp to enable wheelchair access.

During this process, task force members and staff from the customized welfare team visited the household to carefully check for any other inconveniences and spent valuable time having a sincere conversation.

Mr. J from the household said, “Due to old age, it is difficult to care for my spouse, and every hospital visit was challenging, so I sought help from the customized welfare team. Thanks to the Our Neighborhood Welfare Task Force, I feel like I have received a warm spring gift and am very happy.”

The head of the Our Neighborhood Welfare Task Force said, “I feel rewarded to personally visit and volunteer for families in need with the members. Going forward, we will become a more proactive Our Neighborhood Welfare Task Force that reaches out to neighbors in difficulty within the township.”
