Four Graduate Students from Dong-A University Selected for the 'Women Graduate Students Engineering Research Team Support Project'

Four graduate students from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Dong-A University, participating in the BK-21 FOUR (Brain Korea 21 Phase 4) education and research group, have been selected for the ‘Support Project for Female Graduate Students’ Engineering Research Teams’ organized by the Korea Foundation for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology.

In the 2023 Support Project for Female Graduate Students’ Engineering Research Teams in the ‘Chemical Engineering’ field, Dong-A University is the only institution in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) region with four graduate students selected. Last year, two graduate students from Dong-A University’s Department of Chemical Engineering were also selected for the project.

The selected graduate students from Dong-A University’s Department of Chemical Engineering are ▲ Sujin Lee (‘Development of polydopamine-based photocatalysts for eco-friendly hydrogen peroxide production’), ▲ Subin Choi (‘Development of a biological adsorbent heavy metal adsorption-desorption system using B. subtilis spore surface display technology’), ▲ Yeonsu Jo (‘Development of ionic liquids with dual external stimulus-responsive properties for water treatment’), and ▲ Jungmin Seo (‘Research on eco-friendly nano photocatalysts for plastic degradation’).

Master’s students Sujin Lee, Subin Choi, and Yeonsu Jo were selected for the advanced course, while master’s student Jungmin Seo was selected for the general course. The advanced course provides research funding of 8 million KRW, and the general course provides 7 million KRW.

Master’s students Sujin Lee, Subin Choi, Yeonsu Jo, and Jungmin Seo said, “It is meaningful to conduct research that contributes to solving environmental pollution issues and benefits society,” adding, “We feel a sense of responsibility as graduate students given the opportunity to lead the research as principal investigators.”

They further stated, “We hope that such opportunities will expand in the future, allowing more women in science and engineering fields to broaden their social participation and strengthen their positions.”

Professor Minsu Koo of the Department of Chemical Engineering said, “As part of the Brain Korea 21 (BK21 FOUR) education and research group, we will continue to support extensive research and strive to present excellent research outcomes through passionate guidance from professors and active participation from students.”
