The Ulsan City Health and Environment Research Institute announced on the 3rd that safety inspections conducted on highly consumed agricultural products in spring all met the standards and regulations.

The inspection collected 24 samples of spring highly consumed agricultural products such as strawberries, water parsley, and chives sold in large supermarkets from March 20 to March 31, testing for 400 types of residual pesticides including Alachlor, as well as heavy metals like lead and cadmium.

The results confirmed that all 24 samples met the standards for residual pesticides and heavy metals, ensuring they are safe for consumption.

An institute official stated, “We will continue to strengthen safety management of highly consumed agricultural products by season and item to ensure citizens can purchase safe agricultural products.”

He added, “In the second quarter, we plan to focus inspections on agricultural products used for food and medicine and those sold at local food direct sales stores.”

Last year, when 41 samples of spring highly consumed agricultural products were tested, mugwort was found to contain the herbicide pendimethalin at levels seven times higher than the pesticide residue tolerance limit. This was immediately reported to administrative agencies nationwide and relevant production area institutions, and distribution was prohibited.
