[Asia Economy Reporter Haeyoung Kwon] The U.S. military shot down another flying object over Lake Huron, located on the border between the United States and Canada. This comes just one day after unidentified flying objects were consecutively shot down over Alaska and Canadian airspace.
On the 12th (local time), major U.S. media outlets reported this, citing government officials.
On the same day, Democratic Representative Elisa Sloakin tweeted regarding the matter, saying, "I was contacted by the Department of Defense," and added, "The U.S. military is closely monitoring an object over Lake Huron." In a subsequent tweet, she explained, "The object was shot down by pilots from the U.S. Air Force and the National Guard," and stated, "We are interested in the identity and purpose of this object."
The United States first shot down a Chinese reconnaissance balloon off the coast of eastern Carolina on the 4th. The object fell into the sea after being shot down, and the Navy and Coast Guard vessels were deployed to recover the debris. The State Department explained that the reconnaissance balloon was related to the Chinese military. Subsequently, on the 10th and 11th, unidentified flying objects were shot down over Alaska and Yukon, Canada, respectively. Regarding this, Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said, "The government believes both are balloons," and added, "They are much smaller than the Chinese reconnaissance balloon shot down on the 4th."
