On the 10th, Pohang City held the first export loading ceremony for "Pohang Rice" departing to Canada at the Seopohang Nonghyup Distribution Business Group located in Gigaemyeon.

This marks the first fruit of Pohang City's active overseas marketing efforts, including monitoring local rice trends in the Americas, visiting local clients and conducting export consultations, developing North American market-tailored weight (pound) products, and creating packaging materials labeled in English and French.
The city signed export contracts for 200 tons exclusively to the North American region (United States and Canada) this year, and it is expected to open export channels amid the ongoing rice price decline since last year, contributing to increased farmers' income and a stable export foundation.
Pohang rice is well-known for its excellent grain quality and taste, cultivated and harvested under abundant sunlight and clean water, and it also boasts outstanding preservation due to superior export milling and packaging technologies.
Last year, the city exported 172 tons of rice worldwide to regions including the Americas, Europe, Oceania, and the Middle East, accounting for about 6% of the nation's rice exports, establishing itself as a top local government in rice exports. This year, the city plans to focus administrative efforts on securing export competitiveness by item and pioneering new markets to achieve the regional agricultural product export target of 8 billion dollars.
Yu Wookjae, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, said, “We have made various efforts to export Pohang's agricultural specialties so far,” and added, “We will do our best to steadily expand export volumes and export countries to greatly help increase farmers' income.”
Lee Sangbeom, Chair of the City Economic and Industrial Committee, encouraged the steady increase in Pohang's agricultural product exports and stated, “The City Council will also spare no effort and actively support the expansion of exports of Pohang's excellent agricultural specialties.”
