[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] #Today, I will listen carefully to the citizens and immediately resolve issues that can be solved on the spot, and for those that require further review, I will make efforts to review and resolve them (Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, at the 'Minsheng Field Handshake Talk' held on November 29 at Seonbu-dong Multipurpose Gymnasium in Seonbu-dong, Ansan City)
Governor Kim Dong-yeon kept his promise to the citizens of Ansan, Gyeonggi Province.
On the 29th, Gyeonggi Province announced that Governor Kim decided to support a total of 10.05 billion KRW for park facility improvements and the construction of a cultural center to address the aging issues of the old downtown area of Ansan.
Accordingly, as part of the public facility construction and remodeling project, the province will promote ▲ the establishment of Gwansan Sports and Culture Center (1 billion KRW) ▲ the construction of the (tentatively named) Singil Youth Harmony Cultural Center (1 billion KRW) ▲ environmental improvements for foreign resident support facilities (500 million KRW) ▲ installation of CCTV around the cultural plaza and historical sites (500 million KRW).
Additionally, facility improvements will be carried out for 13 aging parks, including ▲ environmental maintenance work at Eoullim Park (500 million KRW) ▲ redevelopment project of Seoksu Children's Park (500 million KRW) ▲ improvement of usage environment at Bangameori Park (300 million KRW) ▲ creation of themed spaces at Seongpo Park (900 million KRW).
Ansan was initially planned as a city behind an industrial complex and has over 350 various parks, but many are over 30 years old and require maintenance.
The province will also follow up on residents' requests raised during the Handshake Talk, such as expanding senior job opportunities, youth policies, issues with abandoned shared kickboards, and support for youth transportation expenses.
Contrary to the government's reduction of public-type senior jobs, the province will expand its budget next year and additionally support about 10,000 public-type senior jobs for low-income elderly citizens.
Furthermore, new projects for 2023 include psychological healing programs for young workers and youth activity support programs. The province will also discover regionally specialized jobs and conduct employment linkage projects with local youth.
A comprehensive safety plan will be prepared for the safe use of personal mobility devices (Personal Mobility), such as shared kickboards, which have recently become popular among teenagers.
Currently, parking facilities for electric kickboards and others have been installed at 227 locations within the province. In addition, support for youth transportation expenses for shared bicycle usage, which is frequently used by students for commuting, will be promoted through system improvements.
Meanwhile, the Minsheng Field Handshake Talk is an event held monthly in one city or county, where officials visit the site and freely discuss local issues.
Governor Kim previously supported a budget of 10.6 billion KRW in October for 13 proposed projects, including the installation of landscape lighting at Jungang Market, environmental improvement work around Yangji 1 Bridge, and remodeling of the Senior Welfare Center, which were promised during his visit to Anyang in September.
Also, in November, a budget of 11.5 billion KRW was executed for 15 immediately actionable resident proposals promised at the October Yeoncheon Handshake Talk, including the construction of a senior citizens' hall, improvement of aging facilities at the cultural center, installation of sidewalks on Choseong and Yuchon-ri roads, and construction of village halls.
Governor Kim plans to continue meeting with residents through various forms of Minsheng Field Handshake Talks next year as well.
