[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] A total of 40,000 mourners visited the joint memorial altar honoring the victims of the Itaewon tragedy over two days.


According to Seoul City on the 1st, since the memorial altars were set up at Seoul Plaza and in 25 autonomous districts the previous day, a total of 41,854 mourners had visited by 5 p.m. that day. At the Seoul Plaza altar, 12,225 people paid their respects, while 29,629 visited the altars in the 25 districts to honor the victims.


The number of mourners has been increasing over time. On the first day, 17,286 people visited the joint memorial altar, and on the second day, 24,568 people came.


On that day, notable figures from various fields visited the Seoul Plaza altar to offer condolences, including Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea; Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party; Lee Chang-yong, governor of the Bank of Korea; Huh Chang-soo, chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries; Chung Eui-sun, chairman of Hyundai Motor Group; and Chung Mong-gyu, chairman of the Korea Football Association.
