Chicken specialty franchise ‘Chicken Plus’ announced that it will launch its own app on September 27 and introduce ‘MyChiplus,’ the first subscription service in the chicken brand industry. The chicken subscription service “MyChiplus” is known to have introduced a subscription service to allow customers using Chicken Plus to enjoy chicken at a more reasonable price.


The background for Chicken Plus adopting the chicken subscription service is that recent consecutive price increases have led to rises in the cost of chicken raw materials and delivery fees, increasing the burden on customers due to higher chicken prices. This has become significant enough to coin the new term ‘Chickenflation,’ reflecting the burden on consumers.


Recently, ‘half-price chicken’ at large supermarkets gained great popularity by promoting ‘affordable prices,’ but due to factors such as the supermarket’s location, travel time, and accessibility, customers experience inconvenience, and the perceived cost of supermarket chicken inevitably rises.


Unlike supermarket-style chicken, which is pre-cooked and purchased, customers using Chicken Plus’s ‘MyChiplus’ subscription service can purchase crispy chicken that is ‘cooked immediately upon order’ along with beverages, chicken radish, and sauces?all included without additional purchases?for 9,900 KRW.


Chicken Plus’s ‘MyChiplus’ subscription service is a ‘franchisee-win platform’ aiming for mutual growth with franchise stores. It lowers the external costs imposed on franchise stores when providing chicken, and returns the reduced costs to customers, enabling chicken to be offered at a more affordable price, thus expected to bring the brand closer to customers.


The ‘MyChiplus’ subscription service provides four ‘Plus Coupons,’ each offering a 6,000 KRW discount, upon payment of a monthly subscription fee of 2,000 KRW. Customers can use the provided ‘Plus Coupons’ to receive a 6,000 KRW discount each time and enjoy Chicken Plus’s chicken weekly. Chicken Plus is running a promotion offering one month of free subscription fees from the app launch date until October 31, leading to rapid growth in subscribers through word of mouth.


Meanwhile, a Chicken Plus representative stated, “We hope that through the launch of our app containing the chicken subscription service, we can communicate with more customers and enable reasonable chicken consumption,” adding, “We hope more customers benefit from the Chicken Plus app, designed to return the costs incurred by franchise owners and consumers due to delivery platforms back to customers as value, and that the image of franchise chicken being expensive will be overcome.”
