[Asia Economy Reporters Hyunju Lee and Hyunji Kwon] On the 13th, Joo Ki-hwan, former Emergency Response Committee member of the People Power Party, tendered his resignation immediately after the announcement of the committee member appointments.

Park Hyung-soo, the People Power Party floor spokesperson, stated at a press conference held at the National Assembly Communication Center, "After the first announcement of appointments, Committee Member Joo Ki-hwan earnestly expressed his intention to resign to Emergency Committee Chairman Jeong Jin-seok," adding, "We accepted his resignation and decided to appoint Assemblywoman Jeon Ju-hye as a committee member."

Since Joo is known to be close to President Yoon Seok-yeol, there were concerns that the newly formed emergency committee might be dominated by the 'pro-Yoon faction.' Consequently, Joo voluntarily stepped down, and Assemblywoman Jeon was appointed to represent the Honam region.

Spokesperson Park explained, "Initially, we asked Assemblyman Lee Yong-ho from our party to serve as the Honam representative on the emergency committee, but he declined, so former Committee Member Joo was assigned to the Honam quota. However, today, Joo again expressed his sincere intention to resign, so we appointed Assemblywoman Jeon, whose constituency is Gwangju," he said.
