[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 7th that it will urgently provide 8 billion KRW in special grants to local governments affected by Typhoon Hinnamnor, the 11th typhoon of the season.

This special grant support is intended to assist local governments with disaster recovery costs such as emergency restoration of damaged facilities and relief for disaster victims in areas directly affected by the typhoon, including Pohang and Gyeongju in Gyeongbuk, where the typhoon passed or came close. Considering the scale of human and facility damage by region, 4 billion KRW will be provided to Gyeongbuk, 1 billion KRW each to Busan and Ulsan, and 500 million KRW each to Daegu, Jeonnam, Gyeongnam, and Jeju.

Earlier, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety had additionally provided 5.5 billion KRW in emergency restoration funds on the 4th to help disaster victims affected by the heavy rains in August return to their daily lives as soon as possible.

Minister Lee Sang-min said, “Please expedite relief efforts for disaster victims and emergency restoration to minimize the inconvenience of residents in the affected areas and visitors returning home during the Chuseok holiday,” adding, “The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will also cooperate with local governments to fully support the restoration of damaged facilities and relief for disaster victims.”
