[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Shinsegae Department Store is launching holiday gift sets planned with famous Korean cuisine chefs. This is the first holiday gift set in the industry planned and produced in collaboration with professional chefs.
On the 24th, Shinsegae announced that it has planned six products with renowned Korean cuisine chefs such as Seomyeonghwan, Noh Younghee, and Kim Myungsook under the theme of family gatherings for Chuseok, and will conduct pre-order sales at the Main Store and Gangnam Store until the 4th of next month.
With Korean cuisine expert class and the famous 'Mijeokgammak' operated by Chef Seomyeonghwan, Korean dining 'Poom Seoul' Chef Noh Younghee, and recently popular among the 2030 generation, the Seorae Village Korean dessert cafe 'Kimssi Buin' Chef Kim Myungsook collaborated. Shinsegae buyers personally visited Korean cuisine experts and planned the products after long persuasion.
The products range from appetizer lunchboxes that families can enjoy together with meals and simple drinking occasions to abalone stew, Gujeolpan, and Yakgwa. Representative products include Chef Seomyeonghwan's Ban-ga appetizer lunchbox set, Chef Noh Younghee's Gujeolpan set, and Chef Kim Myungsook's Tea Set No.1. The packaging is also impressive. Shinsegae collaborated with Park Joohyeong, a metal crafts artist famous for his work, and presented the products in 'Ottchil Geumsokhap,' a modern lacquered metal lunchbox, adding a trendy touch to Korean cuisine.
In addition, Shinsegae is introducing gourmet gift sets increased by 20% compared to last year, including madeleines from a famous dessert cafe in Bangbae-dong, special olive oil from Greece, and premium hotel Korean beef sets. The famous restaurant gift sets first introduced by Shinsegae Department Store in the 2019 Lunar New Year, such as Motungiwoo and Utender, have continued to sell out every holiday season, showing a growth rate of over 30%. Including famous restaurant Korean beef gift sets, gourmet gift sets such as Fortnum & Mason, known for British royal tea, charcuterie paired with wine, and premium edible oils from various countries accounted for 10% of total gift set sales as of this Lunar New Year.
Shinsegae is also aiming to capture the demand for gourmet gift sets this year. Representative products include the Maison M.O. two-tier wooden box from the famous dessert cafe 'Maison M.O.' in Bangbae-dong, and the Double Vanilla & Coffee Caramel Madeleines from 'Conditory Oven' in Hannam-dong, which offers baked goods from around the world.
