[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] CU announced on the 17th that it will launch Heyroo Cheongyang Chili Jjamppong, emphasizing a bold soup flavor.
Heyroo Cheongyang Chili Jjamppong features a block of ingredients made with Cheongyang chili peppers from Cheongyang, Chungnam, famous for its chili production, and various vegetables, capturing the deep and rich taste unique to jjamppong. It is a premium cup noodle that adds generosity with toppings of chive and squid. The rich meat broth perfectly embodies the sharp spiciness of Cheongyang chili peppers, favored by Koreans, along with the subtle smoky flavor characteristic of Chinese cuisine, boasting a jjamppong taste comparable to specialty restaurants.
According to CU, the month-over-month sales growth rate of spicy products showed a steady increase, with 6.8% in May and 8.2% in June. In July, it jumped to 14.6%, and this month (1st to 15th) recorded a growth rate of 16.7%.
A BGF Retail official said, “The consumer trend of overcoming heat with hot food, known as 'iyeolchihyeol,' has become clear this year, leading us to develop differentiated products using local specialties. We will continue to introduce customized products targeting customer demand in the future.”
