According to the Busan Police Agency and Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters on the 6th, the collision between the beach train and the taxi occurred around 2 p.m. at a railroad crossing in Jung-dong, Haeundae-gu.
There were about 100 passengers on the train, and three people including a driver in his 50s in the taxi.
Due to the impact of the accident, a female taxi passenger in her 20s sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital. The operation of the beach train was disrupted after the accident.
The accident happened when the taxi, traveling toward the seaside, entered the railroad crossing and collided with the front part of the beach train that was operating normally.
There are barriers installed on both sides of this crossing. At the time of the accident, the barrier on the opposite side was down, while the barrier on the side where the taxi entered was up.
A police official stated, “The signalman gave a stop signal, but the taxi driver said, ‘The barrier was up, and I entered after seeing the green signal,’” adding, “We plan to investigate the exact cause of the accident by questioning the train officials and the taxi driver.”
The Haeundae Beach Train, opened in October 2020, is a tourist train that runs back and forth along a 4.8 km section from Haeundae Mipo through Cheongsapo to Songjeong. It travels at a slow speed of about 15 km/h, stopping at six stations.
Above the 2 km section from Mipo to Cheongsapo, there is the Sky Capsule running along a 10 m high aerial rail. The Sky Capsule is currently operating normally.
