[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] An incident occurred in a nightlife bar in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, where a male customer and a female employee who drank together died.
On the 6th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul is investigating the deaths of a woman in her 30s, employee A, and a man in his 20s, B, who died after drinking together at a nightlife bar in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, the previous morning.
They drank together from around 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. on the 5th. A died at her residence around 10:20 a.m. that day, and B, who drank with her, died alone in a vehicle in a nearby park around 8:30 a.m. while driving. Suspicious narcotic substances were found in B’s vehicle. Police suspect that B put the suspected narcotic substance into A’s drink.
According to the police, the incident was reported three times that morning. Police who responded to the first report at around 7:54 a.m. withdrew after A strongly refused narcotic reagent testing and hospital transfer. When a 119 emergency call came in at 10:34 a.m., the fire department requested joint response with the police. By the time the third report was made at 11:15 a.m., A had already passed away.
Police confirmed that they could not conduct a simple narcotic reagent test due to A’s strong refusal after responding to the first report. In response to criticism of the initial investigation, the police stated that forced reagent testing cannot be conducted without a warrant based solely on suspicion of drug use. Voluntary accompaniment also requires the consent of the individual, so forced investigation cannot proceed.
Meanwhile, the police have requested an autopsy on A to determine the exact cause of death and plan to investigate the detailed circumstances of the incident by questioning the customers who were drinking together and the bar staff.
