원본보기 아이콘[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) has secured its first overseas railway operation and maintenance project in Tanzania. This is expected to serve as a stepping stone for Korea Railroad to advance into the global railway business.
Korea Railroad announced on the 5th that it recently signed a contract for the 'Tanzania Railway Operation and Maintenance Capacity Building Consulting Project' worth 15 billion KRW, commissioned by the Tanzania Railway Corporation.
Five bidders, including the Turkish State Railways and local Tanzanian companies, participated in the tender, but Korea Railroad was selected as the final contractor by ranking first in both technical and comprehensive evaluations.
According to the selection results, Korea Railroad will take on the advisory role for the overall operation and maintenance of the newly constructed 1,219 km railway section connecting Dar es Salaam and Mwanza in Tanzania. The project duration is 36 months.
In particular, Korea Railroad will independently handle and execute tasks such as establishing business strategies, building maintenance systems, and providing commissioning consulting.
Korea Railroad plans to deploy top experts in railway vehicles, systems, and safety management to ensure successful project execution.
Previously, Korea Railroad secured the 'Mtwara Line Railway Construction Feasibility Study' in 2014 and the 'Tanzania Central Line Construction and Supervision Project' in 2017, and is currently carrying out these projects.
Last year, it took on the 'Tanzania Railway Training Center Construction Feasibility Study Project,' continuously expanding its local railway business domain.
Korea Railroad President Na Hee-seung said, “Korea Railroad’s entry into Tanzania is a meaningful first step in officially introducing our railway operation systems and management frameworks overseas. We will accelerate our entry into the global railway market by securing internationally competitive technological capabilities.”
