[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 16th that it will provide a temporary emergency living support fund of 46.2 billion KRW to about 110,000 low-income households struggling due to COVID-19.
This "Temporary Emergency Living Support Fund for Low-Income Households" aims to alleviate the livelihood burden of low-income households facing difficulties purchasing basic consumer goods due to the recent rapid rise in prices and to increase their consumption capacity.
The support targets households qualified as basic livelihood security recipients, legally designated near-poor classes, and single-parent families receiving child-rearing expenses.
The support amount varies by eligibility and household size: among basic livelihood security recipients, ▲ those receiving livelihood and medical benefits will receive from 400,000 KRW for a single-person household up to 1,450,000 KRW for households with seven or more members; ▲ those receiving housing and education benefits, legally designated near-poor classes, and single-parent families will receive from 300,000 KRW for a single-person household up to 1,090,000 KRW for households with seven or more members.
Payments will be made via anonymous prepaid cards or card-type local currency to facilitate post-management. However, basic livelihood security facility recipients will receive cash (facility subsidies).
The card usage period is expected to begin from late June after confirming the support amount per household, card production, and promotional guidance. All funds must be used within the year.
Kang Young-gu, Director of the Health and Welfare Bureau of Jeonnam Province, said, "We hope this temporary emergency living support fund will help low-income households' livelihoods to some extent," and added, "We will do our best to improve the most basic quality of life for low-income groups."
Recipients will be guided and distributed directly by the eup/myeon/dong offices without a separate application process. For more details, contact the administrative welfare center of your eup/myeon/dong or the welfare department of your city/county.
