[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Culture Station Seoul 284 announced on the 16th that it will hold an outdoor space tour where visitors can explore the history and traces of the old Seoul Station, along with a collection exhibition titled "Connecting Eras and Spaces."

Completed in 1925, Culture Station Seoul 284 is one of Korea's representative modern architectural structures. After its closure due to the opening of the KTX and the new station building in 2004, it underwent about two years of restoration work starting in 2009 and reopened in 2011 as "Culture Station Seoul 284."

The upcoming collection exhibition "Connecting Eras and Spaces" showcases old Seoul Station photographs and artifacts related to railroads and modern travel. The exhibition also provides a space where visitors can contemplate themselves at the boundary between past and present by appreciating both the collection and contemporary artists' works.

A notable item in the exhibition is the "Seoul Station Completion Photo Album (Shinseong Commemorative Photo Album)" created to commemorate the completion of Gyeongseong Station. This historical document contains the original blueprints used during the construction of Gyeongseong Station, images of the construction process, and the original forms of each space, recognized for its historical value.

Additionally, visitors can see donated photographs collected through the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's "Seoul Station Photos and Historical Materials Search" contest, which were transferred at the time of the 2011 reopening, as well as railroad station-related items, modern travel books, and train tickets.

Alongside the collection, contemporary works by artists including Hanjeongsik and Kim Jimin plus 13 others are exhibited. Hanjeongsik’s abstract photographs capturing landscapes from across Korea evoke a desire in viewers to travel somewhere. Kim Jimin’s moving chandelier is displayed side by side with the ceiling light of the old Seoul Station’s VIP room, suggesting an intersection of past and present. Illustrations and graphic works depicting Culture Station Seoul 284 are also exhibited.

Along with the exhibition, an outdoor space tour exploring the architecture of the old Seoul Station’s exterior and strolling through the plaza and various spots along Seoul-ro 7017 will be held until the 26th.

A representative from Culture Station Seoul 284 said, "The outdoor space tour, accompanied by explanations from professional guides, offers an opportunity to hear significant stories of Korea’s modern and contemporary history witnessed by Seoul Station, such as the beginning of railroads and independence movements that took place in the Seoul Station plaza." They added, "Since guided explanations to help understand the exhibition and visitor participation programs are also prepared, we hope many people will visit Culture Station Seoul 284."
