Police to Investigate Motive and Other Details of the Crime

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Five middle school students who stole a car from an apartment in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, drove it all the way to Gangwon-do and roamed around the East Coast area were caught by the police.

Gangneung Police Station announced on the 16th that they apprehended five teenage middle school students on charges of vehicle theft and driving without a license at a pension near Gyeongpodae in Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do, around 4:10 a.m. the previous day. Earlier, the Suseo Police Station in Seoul received a report of vehicle theft in the Gangnam area on the 13th, and while tracking the case, they received a missing person report from the parent of one of the suspects. The police tracked the location using the phone number and confirmed that they had moved to the Gangwon area, and requested cooperation from the Gangwon police.

After pursuit by four police stations with jurisdiction over the East Coast, including Gangneung, Donghae, Sokcho, and Samcheok, they were caught. All of the middle school students were male, and it was confirmed that they stole and rode vehicles that were not locked.

A police official said, "The motive for the crime is currently under investigation," and added, "The Suseo Police Station plans to look into the vehicle theft case."
