[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] The movie 'The Witch Part 2. The Other One' (hereafter 'The Witch 2') started off as the number one at the box office on its opening day.


According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system on the 16th, 'The Witch 2' (directed by Park Hoon-jung), which was released on the 15th, attracted 266,526 viewers and ranked first at the box office. The cumulative audience including preview screenings is 270,887.


The film depicts the story of a girl who survives alone in a devastated secret laboratory and comes out into the world, where various forces with different purposes pursue her. It surpassed the opening score of the prequel 'The Witch,' released in June 2018, which had 121,990 viewers.


In second place was 'The Outlaws 2' (directed by Lee Sang-yong), the first movie of this year to reach 10 million viewers, with 90,287 viewers. Since its release on the 18th of last month, its cumulative audience has reached 10,823,826.


Third place was taken by 'Broker' (directed by Hirokazu Koreeda), and the foreign film 'Lightyear,' released on the 15th, entered at fourth place, attracting around 30,000 viewers.


The total number of moviegoers who visited theaters that day was 442,342.
