[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] LG Energy Solution will participate in the world's largest ESS exhibition, 'ees Europe 2022,' held in Munich, Germany, for three days starting from the 11th.

This year, LG Energy Solution will showcase its new residential and power ESS products, ESS system integration, and used battery reuse business strategies under the theme "The next level of flexibility."

First, the new residential ESS product 'RESU Flex,' which maximizes customer convenience, is a representative example. This modular assembly product allows customers to easily install it themselves and purchase only the required capacity. It features a sophisticated design and can be installed in desired forms such as wall-mounted or stand type, making it usable as an interior element. It also has safety features that enable real-time monitoring of battery status through a smartphone application.

They will also introduce the new power grid ESS total solution product, 'The New Containerized ESS Solution.' This product is a standardized integrated ESS product that includes not only batteries but also air conditioning systems, electrical components, and extinguishing agents all in one container. It is delivered to customers fully assembled, making installation easy and reducing costs.

In addition, various key ESS products will be showcased, including ▲ 'RESU 48V,' which has a compact design for easy installation and good space utilization ▲ 'RESU Prime,' which has the world's largest capacity (16 kWh) for a single product and can be expanded in parallel up to two units ▲ and the power grid ESS ‘TR1300,’ which maximizes energy efficiency and safety by pre-assembling all materials in rack units and installing them on-site to reduce costs and time. A battery rack refers to the final assembly stage of batteries within the ESS system. Battery cells, the basic units of lithium-ion batteries that can charge and discharge electrical energy, form packs, and packs combine to form racks.

An LG Energy Solution official said, "This year’s exhibition will also feature a prototype of the LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery developed for ESS," adding, "Through this, LG Energy Solution will build a diverse portfolio alongside NCM (Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese) batteries to flexibly respond to customer demands."

LG Energy Solution plans to introduce the future business strategy of the newly established subsidiary ‘LG Energy Solution Vertech,’ launched in February, at this exhibition. Previously, LG Energy Solution entered the ESS system integration (SI) business by acquiring 100% of the shares of the U.S. ESS SI specialist company ‘NEC Energy Solutions.’

ESS SI refers to a business that provides customized solutions for each customer to optimize their ESS projects, including planning, design, installation, maintenance, and provision of essential equipment related to ESS. LG Energy Solution expects to secure business competitiveness not only in battery supply but also in directly building large-scale ESS and managing them post-installation through the launch of the new subsidiary.

Seungse Jang, Head of the ESS Battery Business Division at LG Energy Solution (Executive Director), said, "We will provide customers with the best products and solutions based on innovative new products and capabilities in the system integration business," adding, "Through this, we will lead the global ESS market and contribute to revitalizing the industrial ecosystem."
