The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 27th that one subcontractor worker who had been receiving treatment for burns sustained in the fire at the SK Geocentric Olefin Plant in Nam-gu, Ulsan, a week ago, has ultimately passed away. From that day, the Ministry began investigating whether there were any violations of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act or the Industrial Safety and Health Act.
On the 20th, a fire of unknown cause broke out during the cleaning of a toluene storage tank at the plant, injuring two workers with burns.
The Serious Accidents Punishment Act applies when one or more deaths occur due to an industrial accident or when two or more injuries require treatment for six months or longer.
