[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyungpil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 27th that it will hold the ‘Wando Jangbogo Seafood Festival’ for four days from the 5th to the 8th of next month.
This festival has newly established a variety of programs linked to Admiral Jang Bogo, the clean sea, seafood produced in the clean sea, and marine healing, so that residents and tourists can enjoy and experience them in various ways to heal their minds and bodies exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The main programs on the first day of the festival on the 5th of next month include a signing event by the Gwangju Women’s University archery team, to which Ansan, the triple gold medalist in the Tokyo Olympics archery, belongs, a Young Street Dance Battle, the opening ceremony of the ‘Sea of Hope,’ and busking performances, among other diverse events.
On the 7th, a singing contest for community harmony is scheduled, and singer Youngtak, the promotional ambassador for Wando-gun abalone, is expected to appear as a special guest singer.
On the following day, the 8th, the closing performance of the Marine Police Orchestra, to which the famous rapper BewhY belongs, will decorate the last day of the festival.
In particular, the festival venues?Wando Beach Park, the Jangbogo Statue, and Sinji Myeongsashipri?were each decorated with different concepts to diversify tourism content.
In front of the beach park, a large fishing experience site measuring 110m×14m was created where visitors can try traditional bamboo fishing, and there will be experiences such as abalone harvesting, traditional seaweed harvesting, shopping live commerce with actress Kim Sumi, and water circus flyboard performances.
At the Jangbogo Statue, an air bounce children’s playground and an animal experience farm will provide additional enjoyment for children and families.
At Sinji Myeongsashipri, marine healing experiences, a children’s sand playground, and a shell experience workshop will be operated to offer a healing time along with the clean sea.
By dividing the venues into three locations, it is expected that tourists will be dispersed, and a quarantine system including quarantine gates, thermal cameras, and smart hand sanitizers has been established at the beach park to ensure a safe festival experience.
Meanwhile, the 2022 Wando International Seaweed Symposium and an on-off hybrid export consultation meeting will also be held.
A county official said, “We hope many people will taste fresh seafood and enjoy the festival in Wando, the clean sea capital of Korea, and heal themselves,” adding, “We will do our best to prepare for a successful festival that will contribute to tourism and the local economy, which have been stagnant due to COVID-19.”
