[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Joo Ki-hwan, the People Power Party's preliminary candidate for mayor of Gwangju, proposed a policy-based election to Kang Ki-jung, the Democratic Party's candidate for mayor of Gwangju, on the 27th.
On the same day, Joo held a press conference at the Gwangju City Council and said, "I am ready to compete with Candidate Kang in a policy battle for the development of Gwangju," adding, "I will compete with policies without negativity."
He said, "Candidate Kang is a three-term National Assembly member and a distinguished person who served as the Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs in the Moon Jae-in administration's Blue House (Candidate Kang served as Senior Secretary for Political Affairs)," and added, "As a political newcomer, it is a great honor to compete against Candidate Kang, a political veteran, for the mayor of Gwangju."
He emphasized, "The mayor of Gwangju has been the exclusive domain of the Democratic Party for 27 years," and said, "There were many opportunities for development, but instead, it has become backward. It must change now."
He continued, "In the Yoon Seok-yeol government era, the only candidate who can bring development to Gwangju is Joo Ki-hwan of the People Power Party," and stated, "I, Joo Ki-hwan, will protect the value of Gwangju and transform the future Gwangju into the present Gwangju to accelerate Gwangju's development."
He also said, "The Presidential Transition Committee specifically mentioned the future automobile industry, commonly known as artificial intelligence (AI) and mobility, which is Yoon Seok-yeol's number one pledge for Gwangju," and added, "I will attract large AI semiconductor companies and future car-related companies symbolized by mobility to create quality jobs."
