[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] On the 27th, the Gwangju Regional Tax Office awarded appointment letters to the private members of the Gwangju Taxpayer Protection Committee, whose term begins in April 2022, and held a meeting.

The Taxpayer Protection Committee is composed of private members (professors, lawyers, accountants, tax accountants) with expertise in law, taxation·and accounting fields, excluding the Taxpayer Protection Officer, to strengthen independence and ensure fair and transparent committee operations.

The eight private members appointed that day will attend the Taxpayer Protection Committee for the next two years to review whether taxpayers' legitimate rights have been infringed during the execution of national tax administration, such as tax investigations.

After awarding the appointment letters, the Gwangju Regional Tax Office distributed a self-produced practical guidebook titled 'Taxpayer Protection Committee Operation Guide' to the private members, providing detailed explanations about the committee's review subjects and case examples.

Lee Pan-sik, Commissioner of the Gwangju Regional Tax Office, emphasized the importance of the committee and its role in checking and controlling national tax administration, urging, “Please take the lead in protecting taxpayers' rights as future members of the Taxpayer Protection Committee.”

Going forward, the Gwangju Regional Tax Office plans to activate the operation of the Taxpayer Protection Committee to ensure taxpayers' rights are fully guaranteed and actively promote the system through various meetings and communication events.
