[Asia Economy Reporter Seomibeum Seo] Publishing company Minumsa’s ‘Minum Book Club’ will begin recruiting new members for its 12th term on the 27th through Naver Shopping Live. Marking its 12th anniversary this year, it has prepared a unique service with the keyword ‘communication.’
By paying an annual fee of 50,000 KRW, Minum Book Club members can select 3 books from approximately 490 titles, including the World Literature Collection, World Poets Selection, and Today’s Young Writers series. Additionally, members can choose 3 books from 7 special recover edition books exclusively available to Minum Book Club members, and receive goods that support reading habits along with eligibility to participate in various events and activities.
Especially this year, under the theme of ‘A community connected through books,’ a new ‘private online reading community’ space accessible only to Minum Book Club members has been newly established and introduced.
The joining gift was mainly produced as a ‘book pouch,’ which was the most preferred item according to a prior survey of Minum Book Club members. In collaboration with the design studio OIMU, a lightweight, sturdy book pouch focused on safely protecting books was created. Members will also receive a generously sized ‘note pad’ and a ‘one-line note’ that can be attached to books like a bookmark to jot down good sentences or thoughts.
While the edition works previously focused mainly on full-length novels, this year the selection has expanded to a wider range of genres including fairy tales, poetry, short story collections, and full-length novels. Previously, members could choose 2 books from 5 edition titles, but this year the selection has been expanded to allow choosing 3 books from 7 titles, increasing the benefits. The book club edition design was handled by Minumsa’s art department designer Hwang Ilseon.
Jung Daeyong, director of Minumsa’s marketing department, stated, “Through various book club events, we plan to provide a rich reading experience by closely communicating through books,” and added, “We hope members will enjoy sharing the joy of reading in the newly opened community.”
