[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan Port Authority (BPA) will conduct year-round safety inspections of multi-use facilities such as passenger terminals and construction sites following the full lifting of social distancing measures.
The authority, led by the Audit Office, has formed an inspection team consisting of disaster safety officers, integrity citizen auditors, and safety experts to carry out inspection activities targeting all facilities within Busan Port where safety accidents may occur, including construction sites, the Bukhang redevelopment project site, the international passenger terminal, and Gamman Citizen Pier.
In response to the recent social issue of consecutive safety accidents at construction sites, BPA plans to conduct regular unannounced inspections at Busan Port construction sites to eradicate safety corruption, neglect of safety practices, and poor construction.
They also plan to implement internal safety inspections for disaster-vulnerable areas to prepare for typhoons, heatwaves, heavy snowfall, and cold waves during the winter season.
Facilities accessible to citizens, such as waterfront facilities and inner harbor facilities, will be inspected more thoroughly.
Kang Jun-seok, BPA President, stated, “We will strengthen preventive safety inspections to ensure that citizens and workers using Busan Port do not suffer damage to their precious lives and property due to safety accidents, and we will do our best to eradicate corruption in the safety sector and promote a culture of safety.”
During an inspection of the New Port construction site conducted on the 22nd, the safety inspection team locally corrected measures to strengthen access control within the site to prevent inconvenience to construction workers and citizens, and to thoroughly organize and arrange materials.
