Chungnam, Call for Proposals for Forest Crop Production and Forest Complex Management Complex Development

[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province announced on the 27th that it will accept applications for the '2023 Forest Income Project' until June 24.


The project is implemented with the purpose of strengthening global market competitiveness and discovering and supporting excellent professional foresters and producer organizations. The total project cost is 38 billion KRW (nationwide standard), and the budget will be used for the establishment of forest crop production complexes and forest integrated management complexes.


Eligible applicants are forestry successors, independent foresters, new knowledge foresters who have been cultivating 79 target items of forest product income sources such as chestnuts and shiitake mushrooms for more than two years as of the application date, and producer organizations under the Enforcement Decree of the Framework Act on Agriculture, Rural Communities and Food Industry.


The application scale per project is up to 500 million KRW (open field cultivation) to 700 million KRW (facility cultivation) for forest crop production complexes, and up to 500 million KRW for forest integrated management complexes. The support subsidy rate for both projects consists of 40% national funds, 20% local funds, and 40% self-payment.


The forest crop production complex establishment project is based on the application standard area per forest product item as follows: ▲ wild vegetables, medicinal herbs, herbal medicines, fruit, and tree by-products (25,000㎡ or more) ▲ mushrooms (open field 3,300㎡ or more, facility 1,650㎡ or more) ▲ ornamental forest plants (open field 10,000㎡ or more, facility 1,000㎡ or more).


The forest integrated management complex establishment project can be applied for when establishing a production base according to the application standard area per forest product item while implementing forest tending projects: ▲ wild vegetables, medicinal herbs, herbal medicines, fruit, and tree by-products (25,000㎡ or more) ▲ mushrooms (open field 3,300㎡ or more) ▲ ornamental forest plants (open field 10,000㎡ or more).


Applications are submitted to the relevant city or county office with the project application form, project plan, etc. After the application deadline, the province will select and announce the final support recipients in September through the first city/county screening and the second provincial screening.


Lee Sang-chun, head of the Forest Resources Division of the province, said, “We will strive to increase actual forest income and enhance the competitiveness of forest products in the province through efficient forestry management and the establishment of a forest income management foundation.” He added, “We ask that many professional foresters and producer organizations active in the region participate in the public offering project.”
