[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] A man in his 20s who assaulted police officers after using drugs at a motel in Jongno-gu, Seoul, has been apprehended.

On the 27th, the Jongno Police Station in Seoul announced that they arrested Mr. A (22) the previous day on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act and obstructing official duties.

According to the police, Mr. A purchased methamphetamine from an unidentified supplier he met online around 10 p.m. on the 20th. Later, around 6 p.m. on the 26th, he used drugs five times at a motel located in Jongno-gu.

It is reported that Mr. A voluntarily reported himself to the police via text message after using the drugs. However, when the police arrived at the scene, he attempted to jump out of the motel window and grabbed a police officer’s neck to shake him, repeatedly punching the officer’s neck and face. The police arrested Mr. A on the spot. A syringe used for drug injection was also found at the scene, and a urine test confirmed Mr. A’s positive reaction to methamphetamine.

A police official stated, "The suspect admitted to purchasing and using methamphetamine as well as assaulting the police officers," adding, "We have applied for an arrest warrant due to concerns about self-harm and the risk of reoffending."
