The Net Zero 2050 Climate Foundation, established to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, is a non-profit organization under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. At this forum hosted by the Net Zero Climate Foundation, cases of Korean companies implementing net zero (zero net carbon emissions) and ESG (environment, social, governance) as well as cooperation plans with underdeveloped countries such as Africa were presented to promote the Build Back Better World (B3W) initiative between Korea and Africa.

At the forum, Lee Kwon-no, CEO of Hurim Robot, explained the application cases of Hurim Robot’s artificial intelligence (AI) and robots, emphasizing that applying industrial robots to manufacturing production processes can increase price competitiveness and production efficiency.

He then presented cooperation plans for carbon neutrality through collaboration with its affiliate Hurim Construction based on Hurim Robot’s AI and robot technologies. He explained that by utilizing Hurim Robot’s technology in the construction process, it is possible to realize ‘zero energy buildings,’ where the sum of the energy consumed by the building and the energy generated from renewable energy within the building ultimately becomes ‘0.’

Countries around the world, including Korea, are making various efforts to achieve net zero by 2050, where the net carbon emissions, the sum of emitted and removed carbon, become zero. Especially in the manufacturing sector, introducing the latest technologies such as robots and AI optimizes production processes to reduce power consumption and improve production efficiency, thereby reducing carbon emissions, making the application of related technologies a focus of attention.

Lee Kwon-no, CEO of Hurim Robot, said, “Applying Hurim Robot’s industrial robots to the production of eco-friendly energy facilities such as solar and wind power and secondary batteries for electric vehicles not only enhances price competitiveness but also enables mass production.” He added, “Using fire control robots and drones developed by Hurim Robot can prevent fire outbreaks, and through our affiliate Hurim Construction, zero energy buildings can be realized.”

He further stated, “Based on the AI and robot technologies owned by Hurim Robot, we will strive to build cooperative relationships for carbon neutrality in African countries.”

Jang Daesik, chairman of Hurim Robot and director of the Net Zero Climate Foundation, said, “As corporate social responsibility is increasingly emphasized recently, Hurim Robot will continue proactive efforts with ESG management as a core value to realize social value and contribute to society.” He added, “We expect Hurim Robot’s robot and AI technologies to make a significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions.”

Hurim Robot previously showcased its self-developed AI autonomous driving robot ‘TETRA-DSV’ at ‘WIS 2022,’ the largest information and communication technology exhibition in Korea. Hurim Robot is leading Korean robot technology, having received the Minister of Science and ICT Award for the practicality and innovativeness of TETRA-DSV.

Meanwhile, the ‘Africa-Korea B3W Carbon Neutrality’ forum was attended by ambassadors from 20 African countries residing in Korea, including ▲Carlos Victor Bungur, Ambassador of Gabon to Korea ▲Mwende Mwangi, Ambassador of Kenya ▲Ali Mohamed Magashi, Ambassador of Nigeria ▲Chafik Rachadi, Ambassador of Morocco ▲Wilbur Chisiya Simusa, Ambassador of Zambia, as well as ▲Abdul Hakim Atarud, Ambassador of Afghanistan, and diplomats.
