Daejeon City Conducts Nationwide Crackdown on Delivery Companies' 'Illegal Motorcycles'

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City announced on the 27th that next month, it will conduct a joint crackdown on illegal motorcycles in cooperation with the five autonomous districts, Daejeon Police Agency, and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority.


During the crackdown, the city plans to inspect 145 delivery companies within the jurisdiction to check for violations of the Motor Vehicle Management Act and the Road Traffic Act related to delivery motorcycles.


The main targets of the crackdown are violations of the Motor Vehicle Management Act such as illegal tuning of mufflers and major parts, failure to attach license plates that have not been reported for use, damaged or obscured license plates, and violations of the Road Traffic Act such as running red lights and not wearing protective gear.


Those caught for illegal tuning of mufflers and major parts, and intentional obscuring of license plates will face imprisonment for up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million won. Failure to report and failure to attach license plates will result in fines of up to 1 million won, and violations of the Road Traffic Act will be subject to penalty charges.


Illegal acts by delivery motorcycles can be reported directly by citizens through the Safety Report app or to the nearest district office traffic department or the local police station’s traffic security department.


Han Seon-hee, Director of the Transportation and Construction Bureau of the city, said, “We will continue to conduct crackdowns to eradicate illegal acts by motorcycles,” and added, “We urge motorcycle drivers to drive safely and comply with the law, and ask citizens to actively report violations.”
