[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Noroo Paint announced on the 27th that it has jointly developed the country's first eco-friendly coating for home appliances, 'BIO-HQ (Bio-High Quality),' containing bio-based raw materials within the coating film, together with its subsidiary Noroo Coil Coating Co., Ltd.

BIO-HQ is a bio-coating that applies components extracted from natural materials such as sugarcane and corn to essential coating elements like resin and solvent through chemical reactions. While existing bio-coatings on the market have only been applied to solvents with high volatility, BIO-HQ developed by Noroo Paint is differentiated from other products by being the first in Korea to use bio-based raw materials in the resin component as well.

Physical property tests showed that the bio-content within the coating film exceeds 20%. It also boasts excellent processability and scratch resistance, meeting the quality requirements for color, workability, and hardness demanded by electronics manufacturers.

Noroo Paint expects this product to meet the growing demand for eco-friendly materials in the home appliance industry. BIO-HQ is a differentiated eco-friendly product that can appeal to Green Consumers (Green+Consumer), especially among the MZ generation, and is anticipated to secure competitiveness in the expanding eco-friendly home appliance coating market.

The Noroo Paint Research Institute stated, "In line with the government's carbon neutrality policy due to the seriousness of global climate change and Noroo Paint's ESG management, our researchers who have developed coatings for decades are striving to develop eco-friendly raw materials," adding, "We will continue to focus on developing products that help the global environment and are recognized by customers."

Meanwhile, Noroo Paint was the first in Korea to introduce a white bio-coating certified by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Recently, it has also launched various eco-friendly products based on high technology, such as developing recycled coatings using laminated films from used car windshields.
