[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Kim Dong-yeon, the Democratic Party candidate for Gyeonggi Province governor, has called on Kim Eun-hye, the People Power Party candidate, to clearly state her position on the development of the first-generation new towns in the Seoul metropolitan area.

This follows the 20th Presidential Transition Committee's announcement of a cautious approach that does not rush the reconstruction of first-generation new towns in Gyeonggi Province, including Bundang, Sanbon, Ilsan, Pyeongchon, and Jungdong.

On the 27th, Kim Dong-yeon's campaign released a statement saying, "Currently, disappointment is growing among residents of first-generation new towns such as Bundang and Ilsan in the metropolitan area regarding the Transition Committee's cautious approach to reconstruction," and criticized, "This is because President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol promised during the presidential election to accelerate the development of first-generation new towns to gain votes, but after winning, he is changing his stance."

They continued, "The Presidential Transition Committee has announced a cautious approach that does not rush the reconstruction of first-generation new towns," and claimed, "The pledge by President-elect Yoon to abolish detailed safety inspections for complexes over 30 years old has effectively been abandoned."

The campaign added, "Although it is a plausible explanation that sufficient review and social discussion should be conducted from the stage of establishing the master plan for the development of first-generation new towns, it is clearly different from the promises made during the presidential election," and pointed out, "Complaints such as 'He abandoned his promises after becoming president' and 'It feels like being stabbed in the back' are pouring out on online real estate communities."

In particular, the campaign urged, "Someone who should respond to this is remaining silent. That person is Kim Eun-hye, the People Power Party candidate for Gyeonggi Province governor and former spokesperson for President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol," and called on her, "Do not evade with a general, off-the-cuff response that 'the promises will be fulfilled as pledged,' but provide an answer befitting a gubernatorial candidate."
