[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] SK Telecom announced on the 27th that it will hold a technology sharing event called 'Devotion Tech Day' on the 29th to facilitate exchange and communication of technological capabilities held by the SK ICT Family with external developers such as startups and universities.
'Devotion,' meaning 'a sea of inspiration for developers,' is a developer community created by SK Telecom last June to enable communication between development experts belonging to the SK ICT Family, including SK Hynix, SK C&C, SK Broadband, and SK Planet, and external development talents. It holds seminars every month where various developers can share trends and sends out the 'Devotion Letter.'
Devotion Tech Day is an event that introduces technologies and solutions developed by SK to external developers and is planned to be held quarterly. At the first 'Devotion Tech Day,' Kubernetes-based container technology will be demonstrated, and commercialization cases will be introduced.
Container technology is a technology that virtualizes software such as apps and services. It has been receiving much attention as the release and update of apps and services increase. By virtualizing software through container technology, the time required for launching and modifying apps and services is significantly reduced. Additionally, since cloud migration is easy, it has the advantage of providing services without being dependent on a specific cloud.
SK Telecom will showcase container technology based on the platform called 'Kubernetes.' By utilizing the Kubernetes platform, services or apps can be updated or inspected without interrupting service provision. SK Telecom has successfully commercialized its self-developed container technology in broadcasting and financial sectors, proving its excellent performance. In fact, SK Broadband introduced container technology and reduced the total cost of ownership of the system by more than 50% and improved development and operational productivity by over 30%.
Devotion Tech Day will be held on Friday the 29th from 1:30 PM to 5:50 PM. Those who wish to attend can visit 'Devotion' to check the access URL. After the event, prizes such as mechanical keyboards and Starbucks gift cards will be provided through a raffle.
Heo Jun, Talent Manager at SK Telecom, said, “We prepared 'Devotion Tech Day' to share container technology, which has recently been receiving great attention,” and added, “The SK ICT Family, including SK Telecom, will continue to communicate with external developers centered on Devotion and strive for the development of the developer ecosystem.”
