[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Busan Regional Employment and Labor Office of the Ministry of Employment and Labor conducted a search and seizure at the headquarters of Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan on the 26th in connection with an accident in which a subcontractor worker died due to an explosion.

At Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan Shipyard, on the 2nd, a subcontractor worker in his 50s, Mr. A, is presumed to have died after being hit by flying tools caused by an explosion of flammable gas during an oxygen cutting operation. The Labor Office has been investigating Hyundai Heavy Industries and the subcontractor as both are companies with more than 50 regular employees subject to the Serious Accident Punishment Act. The subcontractor's office was also included in the search and seizure.

From 9 a.m. on the same day, the Labor Office reportedly deployed about 30 labor inspectors to secure documents and electronic data related to safety from Hyundai Heavy Industries' main building and production technology building. The search and seizure concluded around 8 p.m., approximately 11 hours later. The Labor Office plans to verify through the seized materials whether the company properly fulfilled its safety and health obligations.

Earlier, on the 3rd, the Labor Office had issued a work suspension order related to welding at the panel factory in Yard 2 of Hyundai Heavy Industries' Shipbuilding and Offshore Business Division, where the accident occurred.
