[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] The 26th National Free Economic Zone Directors' Council, hosted by the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority, was held on the 26th at the Daegu Textile Complex.
This Free Economic Zone Directors' Council was attended by over 60 people, including directors from nine free economic zones nationwide, including Daegu and Gyeongbuk, and the head of the Free Economic Zone Planning Division of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
The directors of the free economic zones shared the Free Economic Zone Development Plan, which was implemented following the amendment of the "Special Act on the Designation and Operation of Free Economic Zones" last year, and continued discussions on the direction of future development plans.
They focused on discussing response measures of the free economic zones to domestic and international environmental changes, including strategies to attract anchor companies and upstream and downstream companies centered on core strategic industries.
In addition, to strengthen the competitiveness of free economic zones and improve unreasonable regulations, they adopted a joint proposal containing institutional improvement tasks such as the legalization of tenant company management systems, improvement of development plan change regulations, and strengthening of foreign investment incentives in free economic zones, which was delivered to the Free Economic Zone Planning Division of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
Director Choi Sam-ryong said, “Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, free economic zones are actively responding to utilize the flow of change as an opportunity amid uncertainties such as the decline in global economic growth rates, slowdown in trade between countries, and increased instability in financial and investment markets.”
